New Sports Hall and Ecotherapy Centre for Psychiatry , Neuss
architects: sander.hofrichter architekten, Ludwigshafen
year: 2011
project description:
To complement the psychiatric treatments already on offer, a detached 2-court sports hall and therapy rooms for the patients have been built on a large clinic site.
Adjacent to the 2-court sports hall is a diamond-shaped building with rooms for ecotherapy, job training with IT workstations and a fitness studio.
One special feature of the hall, which can also be used for events and symposia, is the clever use of coloured lights in the ribbon windows.
The RGB LED strips integrated in the windows can be individually controlled via a light control unit. A motorized, white blind creates a diffusion box with the glazing when closed. The chromaticity, lighting time and fading on and off effects can be controlled separately for every ribbon window. This makes it possible to play out scenarios similar to a “film”, depending on what the hall is being used for.
