Established in 1975, Centerbrook Architects and Planners has grown from seven architects who primarily designed passive solar houses into a practice of 54 professionals from seven countries focusing on design innovation and environmental responsibility across a broad range of work.
Viewing architecture as a collaborative enterprise, Centerbrook has pioneered interactive techniques that engage owners and inhabitants directly in the design process. Its offices are housed in a 19th century mill building that has been renovated to suit the needs of practicing modern architecture and to serve as a laboratory for testing sustainable building technology.
Since its founding, Centerbrook has received 370 awards for design excellence for academic buildings, custom furniture, sports facilities, and urban development. The firm received the 1998 Firm Award, the highest honor the American Institute of Architects confers.
