Juan Beldarrain Santos, born in Bilbao, 1966.
Graduated in Architecture from the ETSA, University of Navarra in 1991 with Honors and the most outstanding
graduate award. Moves to Berlin to work at J. P. Kleihues’ architecture and town planning
office from 1991 to 1993.
Works in Rafael Moneo’s office in Madrid from 1994 to 1996 and then on the Kursaal Auditorium and
Convention Centre in San Sebastián until 1999 in the supervision of the works.
Sets up “estudio beldarrain” in San Sebastián in 2000. He has collaborated with the International University
of Catalonia (ESARQ in Barcelona), the University of the Basque Country (UPV-EHU in San Sebastian)
and the University of Navarra (UNAV in Pamplona).
Their works have been honoured with differents awards, like the Foro Civitas Nova 2007 National Prize
of Architectonic and Urbanistic Sustainable Culture, “FAD” Prizes, “Saloni” prizes, “Live with Wood”
Prizes, “AVS euskadi” prizes for the better actuation in state-subsidised housing, COAVN Prize 2013 in
Residential category and has also been selected as finalist of the XI Spanish biennial of architecture &
urbanism, BEAU XI.
Recently, the Carmen Martin Gaite building has been awarded as selected project in “FAD” Prizes
2014, as finalist in the Ascer awards and has been honoured with the Porcelanosa Prize for energy efficiency
and sustainability.
