Bird House

Bird House

Project Description

Located on Australia’s Gold Coast, ‘Bird House’ is surrounded by bushland and tall gums and was designed to have a strong connection to its setting and the abundance of native flora and fauna on the site. The design has a real sense of place and brings the outside in both visually and acoustically. Passive solar design principles have been utilised to create a home that is functional, environmentally efficient and a pleasure to live in.

Essentially the home comprises of two pavilions connected by a central grassed courtyard that is a special ‚green space‘ in the heart of the home. The courtyard is a multi-purpose space surrounded by openable laser-cut screens that also provide a unique entry and arrival experience.

The contemporary design with its earthy tones sits softly in the landscape and enables the occupants to connect with the beautiful bushland environment and sub-tropical climate they live in.
