Project Description

The design of the block is inspired by the tools, skills and passion of woodcarvers. The starting point was a rough block of wood, from which the basic design idea evolved. Working the wood and the application of incisions were dominant aspects of the process.
The particular location of the site at the junction of two streets, both leading to Gröden, provided the perfect spot for the new headquarters for the Perathoner woodcarving enterprise. The purpose of the new building is to reflect Gröden´s long tradition in arts and crafts, as well as to draw attention to the material of wood. The corporate identity is reflected both on the exterior and in the interior. Quality products are made within the workshops. People passing by are drawn to take a closer look at the expressive structure.
The volume appears to have a living façade that is in motion, flowing, with constantly changing viewpoints and shades of colour. This reflects the ongoing changes during the artistic process, with kinks, indentations, incisions and openings in the building generating curiosity.
