Broombank

Broombank

Project Description

Broombank is a newly-built dwelling overlooking the River Alde. It takes advantage of the existing site topography on the hillside, using the thermal insulation of the earth and reducing its visual impact on the surrounding area. The resulting pavilion, containing the bedroom suite, offers panoramic views of the river and estuary.
The brief was to create a stunning contemporary house, whilst maintaining high energy-efficiency. The thermal mass of the walls and concrete floors, along with the earth bank and green roof, helps to achieve this. A high level of insulation, combined with a ventilation system throughout the house and careful detailing, minimise heat loss.
