Courtyard House in Bangalore

Courtyard House in Bangalore

Project Description

The clients brief for this project saw a strong interest in an “internal courtyard space”. The design was thus conceptualized and evolved as a harmonious blend of the outside with the inside.
The house is climatically designed making it less dependent on mechanical (re)sources. The internal court also extends as a water body along the breadth of the building, which is oriented in the direction of the wind and helps in controlling the internal environment.
The landscape is conceptualized to generate continuity with the surroundings by drawing the lines into the interiors, connecting the courtyard with the interior spatial structure. All the day-units surrounding the courtyard like the living, dining and kitchen areas are treated as exterior spaces and seem as extensions of outdoors into the interiors.  The exterior landscape is designed to be more productive and allows the greens to cover the building façade in progression.
