House in Quinta do Lago

Project Description

This project is a holiday home in Quinta do Lago, overlooking the lake, the gulf and the sea. A white parallelepiped, consisting of a cropped wall of painted concrete that guides access to the house, frames the views of the horizon and defines the whole area authorised by housing development regulations.
Inside the walled perimeter, with inside and outside merging, the entire spatial arrangement is made up of physical and visual continuity, striving to create ambiguity with regard to the perception and definition of the house’s closed boundaries.
The white surfaces of concrete or marble of the whitewashed houses on the Algarve entertain a play of light and shadows throughout the day. On hot days, when the sun is intense, the living room opens automatically to its full height to absorb the coolness of the water garden and to merge with the pool area.
