House on the Cliff

House on the Cliff

Project Description

We appreciate architectural properties that make it possible to construct a house on air, or floating on water.
It is on a prominent plot of land overlooking the sea, ideal for doing nothing and inviting you to linger.
Within this setting, there is a building that respects the natural contours of the land.
The house is like a shadow, looking calmly towards the Mediterranean.
The swimming pool in the sunshine reminds us of the sea, like a quiet cove. The stairway evokes a path, with a garden at basement level.
Due to the steepness of the plot and the wish to keep the house on just one level, we chose a three-dimensional structure of reinforced concrete slabs and screens, adapted to the topography of the plot and minimising groundwork. This monolithic, stone-anchored structure generates a horizontal platform at access level to the house. The swimming pool is situated at a lower level, on an already flat area of the site. The concrete structure is insulated from the outside and then covered with a flexible and smooth white lime stucco. The other materials, the walls, pavements, and the gravel on the roof all feature the same colour, respecting and emphasising the traditional architecture of the area, while also underlining the unity of the house.
