JL House

Project Description

Located in a small village near the city of Vila Nova de Famalicão, the JL House is composed of two volumes with different functions – social and private.
The L-shaped design is a result of the functional programme, the framework of the surrounding landscape and especially the optimum orientation with regard to sunlight. This shape makes the house turn its back towards the main street and its neighbours, opening up a private outdoor living space with a swimming pool, a courtyard, a garden and a porch. The latter is created by the elevation of the private area.
The fact that the private areas face south-east and the social areas face south-west enables both to benefit from optimum sunlight, making the house thermally comfortable the whole year round.
