Project Description
This house is located in a quiet residential district in Setagaya-ku, Tokyo.
The client requested “an innovative design” for their new home.
There had been cases in the past where we had designed houses with a polyhedron form.
This is not only because of the interesting form. In high-density residential areas like central Tokyo, it is often a unique and logical way of dealing with the complicated framework parameters.
In this project, the 5.5-metre-high top plane of the polyhedron geometry, above the living room, is a large skylight filling the space with an abundance of daylight, connecting the living space with the sky. The connection between architecture and the sky is especially important when designing a house in an urban context closely surrounded by other buildings.
The house opens up towards the sky and is a celebration of the exciting and comfortable urban life in Tokyo.
