Project Description
The competition for the Social Cyber Centre Macarena Tres Huertas was part of the city government’s (EMVISESA) framework for the progressive establishment of its ‘tele-administration’ initiatives, which was to be beneficial and available to all its citizens. This demanded a new spatial framework to provide the local inhabitants with the necessary equipment for computing and information communication technologies.
This led to the establishment of the new ‘Macarena Social Cyber Centre’. Access to technologies was accompanied by the optimisation of visual and physical connections to surrounding paths and open spaces. The ground floor is an open space, in order to create a wireless Internet plaza below the building. The small garden and porch lead to the cafeteria and multipurpose rooms, all used as meeting places within the neighbourhood. Above these spaces arises a volume lined with red lacquered sheets, where computer labs, workshops and offices are located.
