Stadtwerk Life Siences Campus

Stadtwerk Life Siences Campus

The former urban industrial district on the Stadtwerke (municipal utilities) site in Salzburg Lehen has been given a new purpose being transformed into the science district. The buildings ensemble on the Stadtwerk site Mitte includes the construction of the Paracelsus Medical University, the laboratory (M 3), an administration building containing medical doctor practices (M 4), and an office block (M 1). The project’s origin is based on a new interpretation of “urban landscape”. In contrast to the general preference in urban design for axonometric, top-down views, the Stadtwerke project is consistently developed from the bottom-up. The natural perspective of the visitor and the complex is decisive. The inverted roofscape becomes the determining, spatially comprehensible element and forms a symbiosis with the campus gardens.
