Training and Resarch Center for Brewing (VLB)

As a compact sculptural volume, the new building supplements the existing buildings including the historic brewing house and defines the new centre of the site. Its brick façade responds to the materials and the colour scheme of the existing buildings, while its form makes it stand out. The entrance storey is raised relative to the surroundings, allowing natural light into the basement storey. The brewery areas in the basement storey, with their kettles and technical equipment, are visible from the entrance hall through large-scale glazing, thereby allowing visitors to see the work at the institute. This also emphasizes the special character of the educational institution as a training centre for brewers. A heavy-duty floor in the lowest storey enables the flexible employment of future brewery technologies.
