Founded by Seyhan Özdemir Sarper and Sefer Çağlar in 2003 and later
joined by Efe Aydar, Autoban is an Istanbul based multidisciplinary design
studio working across a range of architecture and interiors, product and
experiential design. Internationally renowned, they forge reputation for
thoughtfulness, experimentation and craftsmanship.
Autoban acts with the credo of multiplicity in design, singularity in experience.
Forward-looking and context-sensitive, fundamental and experimental,
human and spatial, practical and philosophical, micro and macro, their work
embodies all those traits under a powerful story to create a unique experience.
The narrative is conveyed into the spaces and products by a multilayered design
language that in time has became Autoban’s signature. Studio is fascinated by
common materials and uncommon materials used in uncommon ways. The
materials are skillfully and instinctively pushed to reveal their full potential.
Through a wide range of work from hospitality, transport, commercial, retail,
residential to public realm developments, the practice has not only redefined
Istanbul’s cityscape but is also involved in projects in London, Madrid, Hong
Kong, Moscow, Malta, The Maldives and China, as well as Azerbaijan. Their
signature furniture and lighting range is sold around the world.
Their product designs are showcased at major design exhibitions or appear as installations at art events worldwide such as LDF, ICFF, Salon Del Mobile, and Design Biennale Interieur Kortrijk. Lately, Autoban has con-ceptualized the architectural ideation of Halil Altındere’s solo exhibition viewed at Neurner Berliner Kunstver-ein (NBK) in Berlin and also presented The Wish Machine installation for London Design Biennale as Turkey’s contribution, that is held at Somerset House.
Autoban, has been many times awarded for their innovative and unique design,
including “Red Dot Design Award 2014” for Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Baku, Azerbaijan.
