Project Description
Engine shed converted into commercial and office space
Despite being divided into 6 units and the addition of a new floor, the support structure and the height and spaciousness of the engine shed can still be enjoyed: the ceilings rest on X-shaped supports and are not connected to the walls. The crane runways and windows were also retained. There was no need for new foundations: The X- supports direct the loads into the old maintenance mines under the tracks where the installations are placed. The building is heated via concrete core activation.
The material concept underscores the industrial character of the engine shed. Gaps in the brickwork were sealed with Profilit industrial glazing. The technical equipment is housed in a utility tower. New, external stairs provide a secure escape route.
