Forensic Psychiatric Hospital

Forensic Psychiatric Hospital

Project Description

The Ökumenische Hainich Klinikum gGmbH Mühlhausen built a new three-storey construction for forensic psychiatry north of the existing hospital area, with financial support of the state of Thüringen.
Spread out over 5 wards the new hospital is able to house up to 80 mentally ill people.

The configuration of the building consists of a triangular ring, with required staircases being located at each corner. The centre is used to establish a green courtyard.

A central lobby, rooms for diagnostic investigation, therapy and management as well as a social area including library, occupational therapy and classrooms are arranged on the ground floor. Five wards are located on the two upper floors like a therapeutic living community.
The basement of the building includes wood and metal working as a treatment institution and a gym.
The outdoor area features a playing field and spots for making a picnic or barbecue.
