Gasthof Hinteregger

Gasthof Hinteregger

Hotel Description

Hotel Hinteregger, with its completed extension and conversion, is located in East Tyrol in the tranquil village of Matrei. The hotel has been owned by the Hradecky family for generations. Its Alpine location is surrounded by wild nature. The latest modern and bold conversion has now been realised. An old cinema hall from the nineteen-thirties forms the basis for the innovative wood construction. It was built with solid wood panels and revetted with untreated larch wood boards. The design and spatial composition is deliberately simple. The ensemble was put together according to strict ecological and energy efficiency guidelines. This includes the wood chip heating and the solar thermal system, which covers most of the hotel’s hot water supply. It received a number of prominent awards for its design and technical innovations. The company Madritsch-Pfurtscheller, an architectural duo specialised in wood construction, was responsible for the award-winning architecture. The rooms have a sleek spatial form and feature customised furniture. The beautiful, natural materials are in earthy colour tones. The transitions between the materials are seamless. The rooms are extended outwards by means of protruding loggias. The hotel has its own wellness area available for guests. A new, modern restaurant, flooded with light, provides a harmonious addition to the three existing rustic dining rooms that exude cosiness and traditional hospitality. There is an inviting guest garden in the shade of the heritage-protected 600-year-old Walterhaus. In the kitchen, there is an emphasis on local ingredients and the creative variety of the dishes. Overall, the hotel presents itself as a beautiful new interpretation of the rustic building style of the region. Matrei is located at the heart of High Tauern National Park. The holiday region offers mountain biking, hiking, mountain climbing, rafting, canyoning, and skiing in the Großglockner resort, as well as leisurely relaxation and East Tyrolian hospitality.
