House Camps Bay

Project Description

The brief was to give an existing residential complex consisting of two units a new contemporary look and feel, create some additional quality space, improve the flow and convert a double garage into a new bachelor apartment.

Apartment 1: Four bedroom unit over three storeys + additional study
By replacing an old timber deck with a deep concrete balcony stretching from one side of the building to the other.covered by a concrete roof of the same size the open outdoor space is now usable in any weather condition and incorporates it visually and practically into the living area with any easy flow between in and outside.
Sliding louvered shutters at the outer edge of the balcony deal with the west sun and create some variable play in the facade.
By converting an existing little terrace on the side of the building into a study, an additional roof deck with pergola was created comprising stunning views towards the sea and across the adjacent green belt towards the Twelve Apostle Mountain range.

Apartment 2: Three bedroom single storey unit + additional study
Redesigning an open kitchen with breakfast counter and dining area together with converting a storage space into a private study and overall new finishes and bathrooms an existing unit received a contemporary upmarket facelift.

Apartment 3: Conversion of a double garage into a bachelor apartment.
An existing double garage was converted into a trendy little bachelor apartment with kitchenette and bathroom. By introducing a large sliding door the unit opens up onto a big balcony with magnificent views over Camps Bay Beach.
