Project Description
This swimming pool is located in the suburban area of Zenica, next to an existing residential house also scheduled for reconstruction. The main focus of the project was to place a fully functional and aesthetically appealing swimming pool on a relatively small site, while preserving most of the green areas and natural relations within the location. The project is defined by a simple concept, a contemporary form and clean lines, without seeking to change the identity of the site.
In consideration of the aforementioned features of the site, the pool is designed as a transparent cube with large glass surfaces towards the garden elevation and solid walls towards the fence and the road. The resulting structure offers the functionality that a residential swimming pool needs, while representing an architectural synthesis of open and closed spaces and incorporating surrounding natural elements: the sky, water, grass, wood and stone. The modesty of architectural expression is enhanced somewhat with the contrasts found in solid and transparent surfaces and the carefully chosen natural elements that emerge from the comfort of the interior and are integrated into the exterior.
The ground-level structure has a rectangular floor plan measuring 8.2m x 15.3 metres. It is divided into three functional zones: glasshouse, swimming pool and kitchen/ utility area. The construction method consists of concrete and steel elements. The walls are brick 20 centimetres thick with 10cm of insulation. The pool shell is made of reinforced concrete with special ceramic tiles as a finishing layer.
