Sobreira School

Project Description

Hidden behind one church and under the watchful eye of another, the volume of the school centre of Sobreira peeks out. Aware of the landscape and the nearby surroundings, this building was built with an architecture that is present but silent, dominated by a sinuous covering that simultaneously unites, integrates and characterises the architecture as a whole. As a kind of scenario, this school centre highlights an almost graphic line of light and shadow, cropped and flexible, which designs and makes up the entire façade of this school. The main elevations earn respect and feature a darkercolour, achieved by the use of viroc, a material that gives them density. Reinforcing this idea of light and dark, there are occasional openings that illuminate the interior and at the same time compose and organise the outside.
With its own language, the school emerges as an ideal, varied and active space, open to participation, acting as stimulation to develop skills better and to awaken sensations.
