Project Description
The large building volume, directly located on the outskirts of the old town, reorganizes the previously diffuse urban space and provides a transition to the lower density in the vicinity. The indoor shopping street forms an extension of the historic market street.
A special value is placed on mixing the building’s functions, like retail, cinema, office spaces, hotel and restaurants. Consequently, the building remains alive during the evenings and on weekends.
The street facades are divided into individual houses of different heights and colors, in order to reference the architectonic scale of the city of Neumarkt. A continuous grid of pillars and architraves binds the individual „houses“ together. These grid elements consist of a mixed constructional principle, using massive, self-supporting pre-casts elements of reinforced concrete and thin filling elements made of high-strength, textile reinforced concrete. All concrete surfaces are treated with acid.
The main entrance from the Old Town to the shopping street represents a clear and inviting entrance sign, leading into the round-shaped shopping center.
To the sides, the construction’s volume gradates to form terraces. The facades on the street sides are simplified with plastering.
